Web 3.0 is going to be the same as Terminator 3.

Any Media, Anytime, Any Device....the World Wide Web as we know it will be completely run by robots and software machines and will become a massive open database of video, audio and text and all results will return in that order...

All you Internet Marketers out there....get prepared for the new wave.....get your digital cameras out!

Best,
Marshall

@Antonio. CouchDB's replication story is pretty far already, but distributed identity is still an open issue. The technical bits for exchanging data are all there (sans optimizations, but hey). If you feel like it, maybe help out refining the few missing bits on dev@ (http://couchdb.apache.org/community/lists.html)?

I think we are on the same page, I just don't like the "incomplete" :)

Cheers
Jan

I think your post about the need for a re-decentralization is dead on. Technically it makes all the sense in the world to move in this direction.
However, I worry that despite this, there is still too much "business model pressure" to build up huge centralized services— or more specifically, to harvest loads and loads of users either for VC money or for an eventual exit to a big company. Maybe this economic collapse will reset that metric and return us to sanity— but with Twitter raising $50MM on the back of nothing but "loads of users" and "control of the realtime network," I am not sure we are there.
Personally, I can't wait for the first hugely successful decentralized service/business.

And on CouchDB, I too would be excited if the replication story wasn't so incomplete still.

Chris — I've downloaded CouchApp and Sofa, and joined the mailing list, but I haven't taken it for a serious test-drive yet. There's a lot to learn...

If you'd like to read more about my own ideas, I wrote a series of posts last year describing some of the infrastructure of the app I was working on. I haven't had time to work on that app in a while, sadly, but I'm still eager to make it happen someday.

Thank you so much! You are reminding me of the excitement I felt when I first found CouchDB. I'm glad you think we "get it," not a whole lot of people do yet. But they will. :)

I really hope you're interested in the CouchApp project. We're concentrating on an app model that maximize portability across CouchDB nodes.
