Testers Wanted
July 14th, 2008 by jens

I need a few brave people to test a pre-beta app for me. No, this is not Cloudy; it’s another app I’ve been working on in parallel. It’s called Your Move, and it’s the expanded version of my GeekGameBoard sample code. It lets you play board games against a human opponent; either at the same machine, over a local network, or by sending moves via email or iChat.

Obviously this would make a great iPhone app, and now that I have my iPhone developer certification I’ll start working on that. But for now it’s Mac-only.

To test Your Move you need to

  • Have Mac OS X 10.5.
  • Enjoy playing board games … in particular, Go and/or American checkers, as those are the main games it knows so far.
  • Have at least one friend who will play board games with you (I’ll do in a pinch, but I don’t have time to play against everyone. Plus, ironically, I suck at Go and checkers.)
  • Be willing to tolerate bugs, and committed to sending in bug reports, crash logs and such.

If you’re interested, please

  1. Register an account on the Mooseyard projects website ; then
  2. Email me at “jens” c/o this domain and tell me your username, so I can give you access to the project.

Thanks!

Wow. Your front page is HUGE and must have been designed for 40,000 x 30,000 monitor resolution.

also, your contact is broken in the footer of the page (h3. Contact).

Just a friendly FYI. I like the backgrounds though!

The main scrolling direction is horizontal. That’s intentional, and doesn’t mean your monitor should be that wide (just like your monitor doesn’t need to be as tall as the NYTimes home page.)

Or it’s possible the browser you’re using is messing up the layout; you didn’t specify which it was.

Thanks for the tip about the footer; the formatting got messed up at some point in the past and I hadn’t noticed. I’ve fixed it now.

Tried to access Mooseyard project site and received the following; “Ruby on Rails application could not be started. The application has exited during startup (i.e. during the evaluation of config/environment.rb). The error message may have been written to the web server’s log file. Please check the web server’s log file (i.e. not the (Rails) application’s log file) to find out why the application exited.
