But First, This Brief Message About The End Of The World

Speaking of my projects, here’s a different one that’s actually finished: a new mix entitled The Fall Of The Towers.

I finished it four days ago and I’m still very pleased with it. Several of the overlays and transitions feel like they’ve become more than the sum of their parts—that’s what I aim for, but don’t always attain.

Awesome! Quite a coincidence too; for the past few years I’ve mostly listened to Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk and the likes, and whatever soma.fm was broadcasting, and ambience. Past few months though, I’ve listened to mostly rock stuff (before which I would probably not have be able to stand e g Sonic Youth’s singer :P), and before that what most would call ‘noise’ :) So, The Fall of the Towers just happens to be a relatively perfect blend of my current taste in music :)

I haven’t heard any of the songs that are part of this mix before, so it’s a bit hard to know what’s the original song and what’s your awesome mixing, but in any case I really *love* the blends and the songs and the transitions. Thanks heaps! :) I’ll definitely have to check out the rest of your mix tapes… I was a little disappointed though; i expected The Towers to be a little more violent after reading your description of it ;)

Joachim — Thanks a lot! You just made my day.

Of my other mixes, ones you might want to try first are “I Will Not Forget That I Have Forgotten” (for the droney ambient stuff), “Cut The Lights” (for the ’80s post-punk) and maybe “Stunned” (for overall noisiness.)

Downloaded everything down to and including cut the lights, highly enjoyable :) Actually listened to them for 24 hours straight during a coding competition I attended last week ;) Didn’t win, though :/ Some parts of Silver Lining were really nice.

By the way, I’d like to be able to download all the mixes without getting them one and one :) Could you fix a zip or similar, perhaps?

  • Jens Alfke Says:

Glad you liked them, even if they didn’t help you win!

I think a zip of all the mixes together would start to put a strain on my disk quota. It shouldn’t be hard to write a little script that will start from the base /recordings URL and scrape two levels deep looking for “.mp3” URLs to download. (If you have OS X you can do it in a GUI with Automator.)
